Renowned for his fine musicianship, David Hill is widely respected as both a choral and orchestral conductor from England. His talent has been recognized by his appointments as Chief Conductor of The BBC Singers, Musical Director of The Bach Choir, Chief Conductor of The Southern Sinfonia and Music Director of Leeds Philharmonic Society. Most recently he has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
David Hill became a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists at the tender age of 17. He took an organ scholarship at St John’s College, Cambridge under the direction of Dr. George Guest and returned to the college as Director of Music from 2003-2007. His previous posts have included Master of the Music at Winchester Cathedral (1987-2002), Music Director of The Waynflete Singers (1987-2002), Master of the Music at Westminster Cathedral, Musical Director of the Alexandra Choir (1980-87), and Associate Conductor and then Artistic Director of the Philharmonia Chorus (1986-1997).
Hill is in great demand as a guest conductor and for his choral training workshops worldwide. His handbook on the subject Giving Voice was published in 1995. He is a choral advisor to music publishers Novello, for whom he has edited a number of publications. As an organist, David Hill has given recitals in most of the major venues in the UK and has toured extensively internationally.
Julian Ackerley
Director of the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus since 1980, Julian Ackerley has achieved international acclaim as a conductor and administrator of choral performing arts organizations.
Dr. Ackerley has taken the Boys Chorus on performance tours spanning five continents and over 25 countries. Under his direction, the Chorus has made numerous recordings and has collaborated with national symphony orchestras and opera companies. The state’s highest arts commendation, The Governor’s Arts Award, was presented to the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus.
Dr. Ackerley is an experienced teacher, having taught music at all levels from elementary to university students. He received his doctor of musical arts degree from the University of Arizona with special emphasis in music education, vocal performance, and choral conducting. He has long been a guest conductor and clinician at numerous choral festivals and All-State Choirs.
He is currently the National Boychoir Repertoire and Standards Chair for the American Choral Directors Association. In addition, he has served as vice president for the International Society for Children’s Choral and Performing Arts.
Dr. Ackerley has also conducted the International Children’s Festival Chorus and is the founding conductor of the American Youth Choir (AYC), a national honor choir. As AYC conductor from its inception, Dr. Ackerley conducted festivals in China, Mexico, South America and Europe.
