International Boys and Men’s Choral Festival comes to Arizona

The third International Boys and Men’s Choral Festival will take place in three cities in Arizona from July 25th through August 1, 2011. Boys and men’s choirs as well as individual male singers from around the world will attend the eight-day festival that will be highlighted by public performances in Flagstaff, Mesa (Phoenix), and Tucson.

Festival participants will attend master classes, rehearse and perform with accomplished international conductors including Englishman David Hill, Chief Conductor of The BBC Singers, Musical Director of The Bach Choir, Chief Conductor of The Southern Sinfonia and Music Director of Leeds Philharmonic Society. Most recently, Hill has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Also conducting will be Dr. Julian Ackerley the director of the Tucson Arizona Boys Chorus. Ackerley is the National Boychoir Repertoire and Standards Chair for the American Choral Directors Association and has served as vice president for the International Society for Children’s Choral and Performing Arts. Ackerley has also conducted the International Children’s Festival Chorus and is the founding conductor of the American Youth Choir (AYC), a national honor choir.  As AYC conductor from its inception, Ackerley has conducted festivals in China, Mexico, South America and Europe. 

The Arizona event is the third in a series of prestigious festivals with the first two taking place in the Czech Republic in 2004 and 2008.  The objective of each festival has been to honor male singers of all ages and promote artistic opportunities that foster intercultural understanding and camaraderie.

The public is invited to attend performances at all three Arizona venues. A tentative schedule of performances open to the public is listed below:
